In 1981 Cachalot records president Eric Dufaure asked me to remix “Ghosts”by the Comateens for the dance alternative new wave label. Here is a short excerpt of the creative “haunting” non danceable intro we put together in the studio before finalizing the entire dance remix
When Comateens’ first US label, Cachalot (Eric Dufaure), requested a remix of “Ghosts”, the band headed into the studio to work with Ray “Pinky” Velasquez. Nic found a weird tube lying around, and asked what it was. Ray swung it around producing the eerie whistling sound. Nic played a “spooky” piano riff. The band made up some dialogue on the spot, and requested that their English manager Peter Leak voice a line. Thus the intro to the remix was born.⠀A 12″ EP of three songs from the band’s first album “Comateens”, remixed by club DJ Ray “Pinky” Velasquez at Unique Studios, New York October 1981.
